A HYBRID BI-DIRECTIONAL WIRELESS EV CHARGING SYSTEM TOLERANT TO PAD MISALIGNMENT

              Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular as a means of future transport for sustainable living. However, wireless charging of EVs poses a number of challenges related to interoperability, safety, pad misalignment etc. In particular, pad-misalignments invariably cause changes in system parameters which in turn lead to increase in losses as well as reduction in power throughput, making the charging process long and inefficient. Consequently, wireless charging systems that are less sensitive to pad-misalignments have become preferable. This paper, therefore, presents a hybrid Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) system that charges EVs at constant rate despite large misalignments between charging pads. The proposed charging system uses a combination of two different resonant networks to realize a constant and efficient charging process. A mathematical model is also developed, showing as to how the two resonant networks can be combined to compensate for pad-misalignments. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed concept as well as the accuracy of the mathematical model, theoretical performance is compared with both simulations and experimental results of a prototype 3.3 kW hybrid bidirectional WPT system. Results clearly indicate that the proposed hybrid WPT system is efficient and offers a constant charging profile over a wide range of spatial (3D) pad-misalignments.

POWER ROUTING FOR CASCADED H-BRIDGE CONVERTERS

Modular power converters are expected to play a major role in medium and high voltage/power applications. Normally, each module processes the same amount of power, however this does not take into consideration that different modules can have a different remaining useful lifetime. This paper proposes the concept of power routing for cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converters, with the purpose of delaying the failure of the system. A third-harmonic injection into the duty cycles allows extending the imbalance capability of the structure, keeping the CHB operational even if some power paths are completely unloaded. Analytic investigation in conjunction with simulation and experimental measurements demonstrate the power routing by means of the proposed method.

TRAJECTORY OPTIMIZATION FOR LOSS MINIMIZATION IN INDUCTION MOTOR FED ELEVATOR SYSTEMS

This paper presents a novel loss minimization technique for Induction Motor Driven Elevator Systems (IMDES) to determine an energy optimum velocity pattern. The objective function consists of a differential equation relating total power losses in the induction motor to its rotor speed. The constraints are provided in terms of velocity and acceleration governed by passenger comfort. Since, the velocity and acceleration are state variables, Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle is used to determine the most optimum trajectory by forming an appropriate Hamiltonian function. Boundary conditions are specified and used to obtain the coefficients of the rotor speed equation. As the velocity is optimized, the total travel time is not fixed and treated as a variable. A fixed-point iterative procedure is used to estimate the travel time. Additional loss minimization is incorporated by optimizing the machine flux for the constrained portion of the velocity pattern. An algorithm for implementing the optimization scheme is explained in detail. The theoretical claims are supported with analytical and experimental results. Proposed technique is developed for IMDES, but it can be easily adapted to other drive applications as well.

NEW SWITCHING STRATEGY FOR SINGLE MODE OPERATION OF A SINGLE-STAGE BUCK-BOOST INVERTER

Generally, single-stage buck-boost inverters consist of distinct circuits operating individually in buck/boost or positive/ negative modes, the latter definitely leading to crossover distortion in the output current. This paper proposes a switching strategy that changes the bi-modal operation of a single stage buck-boost topology to a single mode inverter (SMI). This is due to the consequent voltage gain which ensures that the output voltage polarity, apart from its magnitude, is an exclusive function of the duty ratio. Operational principle and salient hardware design are explained with the help of equivalent circuits. Details about the dynamic model are presented, based on which controller design is carried out for both stand-alone and grid-connected operation. Experimental results obtained from a 300 W, 110 V laboratory prototype are presented to validate the performance of the proposed switching strategy.

MULTI-INPUT SWITCHED-CAPACITOR MULTILEVEL INVERTER FOR HIGH-FREQUENCY AC POWER DISTRIBUTION

This paper proposes a switched-capacitor multilevel inverter for high frequency AC power distribution systems. The proposed topology produces a staircase waveform with higher number of output levels employing fewer components compared to several existing switched capacitor multilevel inverters in the literature. This topology is beneficial where asymmetric DC voltage sources are available e.g. incase of renewable energy farms based AC microgrids and modern electric vehicles. Utilizing the available DC sources as inputs for a single inverter solves the major problem of connecting several inverters in parallel. Additionally, the need to stack voltage sources, like batteries or super-capacitors, in series which demand charge equalization algorithms, are eliminated as the voltage sources employed share a common ground. The inverter inherently solves the problem of capacitor voltage balancing as each capacitor is charged to the value equal to one of input voltage every cycle. State analysis, losses and the selection of capacitance are examined. Simulation and experimental results at different distribution frequencies, power levels and output harmonic content are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed multilevel inverter topology.

ENHANCING THE RELIABILITY OF MODULAR MULTILEVEL CONVERTERS USING NEUTRAL SHIFT

A hybrid battery power module composed of lead acid and LiFePO4 batteries for BLDC motor drive is proposed in this study. The lead acid batteries are used as the basic power source and directly connected to the motor drive without any power conversion losses. In addition, to enhance the instant power supply capability to the motor drive, the LiFePO4 batteries are integrated into the proposed hybrid battery power module. A two-phase interleaved dc converter is adopted to control the power flow among the LiFePO4 batteries, lead acid batteries and the motor drive. The common power requirement from the motor drive is designed to be totally provided by the lead acid batteries. Once the power demand became higher than the common level, the additional part would be instantly provided by the LiFePO4 batteries through the interleaved dc converter. The life of the lead acid batteries can therefore be enhanced by the high charging/discharging capability of the integrated LiFePO4 batteries. A prototype with 500W rated power is constructed. Corresponding experiments are carried out to verify the validity and performance of the proposed hybrid battery power module.

A SINGLE-PHASE SINGLE-STAGE SWITCHED-BOOST INVERTER WITH FOUR SWITCHES

This paper proposes a new single-phase single-stage switched-boost inverter with four switches. Like the quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI) and quasi-switched
boost inverter (qSBI), the proposed inverter has the main features as continuous input current, buck/boost voltage with single-stage conversion and shoot-through immunity. Compared to the qSBI, the proposed inverter uses one more capacitor and one less switch. This paper presents the operating principles, PWM control strategy, parameter design guidelines, and simulation results for the proposed inverter. To verify the performance of the proposed inverter, an 800 W prototype was built with an 110 V/50 Hz output voltage in stand-alone and grid-connected modes. The simulation and experimental results matched those of the theoretical analysis.

A DUAL MODULAR MULTILEVEL CONVERTER WITH HIGH-FREQUENCY MAGNETIC LINKS BETWEEN SUB-MODULES FOR MV OPEN-END STATOR WINDING MACHINE DRIVES

 This paper presents a dual Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) topology that utilizes energy exchange between adjacent arm Sub-Modules (SM), operating with out-of-phase modulation. The proposed configuration is applicable to medium-voltage, high-power variable-speed drives incorporating open-end stator winding machines. A novel concept of power redistribution between adjacent SMs in the dual MMC topology is realized through high-frequency transformer-based dc-dc converter modules. This concept offers a significant reduction in the sizing requirement of the SM capacitance and the stored energy in the MMC system, while avoiding the problem of wide voltage fluctuations of SM capacitors, especially at low operating frequencies. The proposed configuration can produce dc voltage; therefore, a machine speed-range from zero speed to the rated speed is possible under the rated torque operating condition. The operating principles of the proposed dual MMC configuration are elaborated and necessary mathematical analysis is derived. Simulation and experimental results verify the concept of the proposed drive configuration.

TRANSMISSION LINE FAULT INSPECTION ROBOT

Power transmission line has been usually inspected manually by workers riding in gondolas that travel suspended from the transmission lines or watching with telescope in the ground. In recent years, it has become increasingly necessary to perform inspection work with the autonomous inspection robot in power transmission line. This project describes the development of a mobile robot capable of clearing such obstacles as counterweights, anchor clamps, and torsion tower. The mobile robot walks on overhead wires in transmission tower. Its ultimate purpose is to automate to inspect the defect of power transmission line. The inspection tasks are performed by the robot carrying detection instruments and rolling/crawling along the overhead ground wires. The installed camera in the robot will inspect the transmission cable wear and tear defects and the insulator defects also inspected by this efficient system. The IR sensors present in the robot system is used to recognize the pole arrival during every laps. This useful robot system simplifies the human efforts on high voltage cable testing scenarios. 

ONLINE MONITORING OF SOLAR BASED STREET LIGHT AND GPRS BASED FAULT AUTOMATIC FAULT INTIMATION

Badly lit roads lead to vehicle accidents and encourage crime. Therefore, it is important to rapidly detect and report faulty streetlights (FSLs) to the relevant authorities to keep roads safe. Currently, communities primarily depend on electrical inspectors to check streetlights regularly, which may result in long and unnecessary delays prior to repair. Recent studies have focused on adding a networking capability (i.e., a wireless sensor network) into street light poles to enable real-time status reports. However, a smart system that would incorporate sensors and network modules into every streetlight would be expensive; therefore, it would be nearly impossible to realize this system quickly. In this project, we propose a noninvasive method for detecting faults on the solar based street lights that involves with the collection of information about streetlights’ intensity. The collected data would be used to intimate the authorized person in the corporation about the fault. The GPS system in our module can recognize the exact position and also send sms through GPRS facility on it. This effective system can intimate the fault occurred on the particular solar power street light without fail. This system is not required any manual checking or else any manual intimation during the fault occasions. The embedded controller will be a brain of this system that will coordinates all the operations such as fault detection, GPS and GPRS activities.

AUTOMATIC LPG LEAKAGE VIGILANCE AND PROTECTION WITH BOOKING SYSTEM USING GSM TECHNOLOGY

GSM based LPG weight and LPG leakage detection system has application in Home, Hotels, Restaurants, as well as in industries. This Project is used to monitor the weight of LPG gas cylinder. In our home we observe whenever LPG gas cylinder is empty. We give request for new cylinder at the office of gas cylinder provider. Many times it happens that because of the Rush or due to the shortage of cylinder, there is a delay in providing the gas cylinder. Main reason behind this is delay in informing to the gas provider or we inform the gas provider at the last moment when the gas is empty. One more example in hotels or sometimes in industry also the LPG gas is also used. In home or in hotels the main purpose of LPG gas is for cooking. But in the industry sometimes, LPG gas or some other combustible gas is used for some other purposes like welding or cutting or for some other use. In these places if the LPG gas inside gas cylinder was finished at that time request for new gas cylinder is sent to the storage department but if there is shortage in stock then there is delay in providing new gas cylinder. To avoid all such situations, we have implemented a project called SMS based LPG gas weight detection system using GSM technology with gas leakage detection also.

This project aims to demonstrate that Li-Fi which is an emerging branch of optical wireless communication can provide us matured solution of this fundamental problem. Professor Harald Haas who is recognized worldwide as a creator of Li-Fi technology gives his concept of transmission of data with the help of illumination .This procedure consists of sending bundles of information through visible light spectrum via LED light bulb .Now a day’s Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is most commonly use for Wireless indoor communication, which require 2.4 - 5 GHz Radio Frequency to deliver wireless Internet access around our homes, schools, offices and in public places. Li-Fi by using visible light as transmission medium can provide us faster, efficient and secure communication as compare to Wi-Fi with high capacity as its spectrum Bandwidth is much broader than the Frequency of Radio spectrum.


GPS BASED BLIND NAVIGATION SYSTEM FOR INDOOR

Objective of this project is helping the blind/old persons travelling easy and illiterate people as well as pedestrian people using an interactive embedded Wireless Sensor Networks. The term blindness refers to the people who have no vision at all or people who have less vision. Most of the blind people take support from guide dogs to walk. We are explaining about the GPS and voice navigation system for blind people.
In this blind people issues the commands and then receive the response using audio signals. GPS receiver is used to receive the values of the latitude and longitude continuously. With the advancement in technology usage of voice recognition is easier to send commands regarding directions to the blind people. As an application of this GPS technology here GPS based voice alert system for the blind persons are very useful, compact and simple system to handle. Today the increase in traffic cause pedestrian to the road harder. The thing is worse if a blind need to cross the road. There are many technologies developing rapidly, but for physically challenged there is not greater development. This project is developed to make the blinds cross the road safely. It consists of a micro controller and Voice controller to show the status of the signal through voice and GPS. This project is very useful for blind people in order to find the traffic signal during their travel. By using this project blind people can walk without human help.

FLIGHT COLLISION AVOIDANCE USING GPS BASED INTELLIGENT BEACON SYSTEM

Collision in Aviation is an unexpected accident in which two or more flights come into unplanned contact during flight. Owing to the relatively high velocities involved and the likelihood of subsequent impact with the ground or sea, very severe damage or the total destruction of at least one of the aircraft involved usually results. The potential for these collisions is increased by deviations from flight paths and the lack of collision-avoidance systems. Although a rare occurrence in general due to the vastness of open space available, collisions often happen near or at airports due to communication towers or any ancient tall buildings. The project is proposing a collision avoidance system for the aviation system. The Global position system (GPS) is responsible to locate the longitude and latitude of the accident zones like communication tower or tall buildings nearby. The embedded controller is casting as a brain for the proposed beacon system inside the flight. The beacon system can intimate the pilot while crossing the dangerous zone. The system also able to recognize the flight-to-flight collision with the help of sensors array fixed on the each flight body. This arrangement can alert the beacon system if there are any symptoms detected for collision. This intelligent beacon system is alerting the pilot by means of voice or alarm.  Thus the proposed collision avoidance is profitable vigilant system for avoiding the unnecessary flight collisions. 

VISION BASD RESCUE METHOD BY USING RCR ROBOT

Children often fall down in the bore well which have been left uncovered and get trapped. The rescuing of this trapped child is not only difficult but also risky. A small delay in the rescue can cost the child his or her life. To lift the child out the narrow confines of the bore wells is also not very easy. The child who has suffered the trauma of the fall and is confined to a small area where, with a passage of time the supply of oxygen is also reduces. This project genesis a robotic based child recuing in particular for the latter accidents. Robots can only offer a solution for bore well rescue because it is fast, Economical and safe. Moreover, it has the facility to monitor the trapped child and provide a supporting platform to lift up the child. Borehole robot consists of 3 wheels with rubber grip for which motors are connected and these wheels have spring suspension also. So that, the wheels will exact fit to the walls of the hole which make the robot to travel down without any sliding and also this robot consists an arm which is used to pick up the child from the borehole. This aids to recover the child from the bore well without any danger of the victim. The sensor systems are interfaced with the brain of the robot called “Arduino”. A camera along with an LED light is used to visualize the victim as well as it helps to operate the system by control unit. The robot Hand movement is used to adjust the child position while lifting. The arm movement of the robot is controlled by DC motor. Once child is perfectly picked by robot, DC motor is used to lift up the child from borewell. The ZigBee plays a vital role of data transferring between the victim in borewell and the recovery team in earth surface with monitor.

AN EMBEDDED SYSTEM BASED OVERHEAD LINE FAULT DETECTION AND PREVENTION OF THE POWER SYSTEM COMPONENTS

These disturbances may travel into other healthy feeders as well as connected load.This project is proposing a novel inspection and control embedded system for the overhead power lines. This project is individually monitoring the voltage, current, temperature and humidity of the transmission line of concern. The above mentionedparameters are the key factors for the transmission line faults (either short circuit (or) insulation failure) so the proposed system is closely monitoring the above parameters. If there any violation in these parameters, the system immediately response to open the particular unhealthy line and also alerting the wireman through sms. Thus the proposed system is fully utilizing the embedded system as well as GSM communication protocol to safeguard the whole power system network from the serious accident.

DESIGN AND REALIZATION OF AN INNOVATIVE ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS LABORATORIES WORKBENCH

An institutional laboratory demands the capability to perform a wide variety of experimental procedures while providing students and researchers with a seamless working environment. To accomplish that goal, lab should integrates the load banks necessary for laboratory procedures with advanced metering, controls and safety features, and contains them within a work station ideally suited for the laboratory space. This project introducing a novel and innovative idea to design and explore the workbenches for electrical and electronics laboratories. This novel work bench is designed with voltage measurement, current measurement devices and temperature sensor for monitoring. The status workbench will be monitored whether it exceeds its rated voltage, current and allowable temperature or not during the practical hours. An embedded system will compare the actual ratings with the reference ratings. The workbench that exceeds the allowable ratings, embedded system will communicate the laboratory in-charge through Zigbee module through personal area network inside the lab itself. This novel implementation will be very helpful to hire a sophisticated monitoring of all the workbench simultaneously.

RFID BASED INTELLIGENT TROLLEY SYSTEM USING ZIGBEE

This project on “ RFID BASED INTELLIGENT TROLLEY SYSTEM USING ZIGBEE  aims at maintaining the database of inventory stock of the supermarkets automatically for the available products and the products purchased. The entire transaction is completed by drag and drop in the trolley itself. The basic principle is RFID based technology. A LCD display, Zigbee, EEPROM slot d used. These are controlled through a suitable embedded system  such as a ARM LPC2148.
            The embedded system programming is done by using Keil ‘C’ and code is written in C language. The output received is the product details displayed in the LCD, the bill get generated and the amount will be paid through the smard card.
            By executing this project one can automatically are creating a solution for updating the database in the PC used for management system automatically, so that there is no need of human presence in that situation.

RF ID BASED CHILD KIDNAP PROTECTION

Child kidnap or abduction is the unlawful taking away or transportation of a child against that child's will, usually to hold them unlawfully. This may be done for ransom or in furtherance of another crime. The most child abductions are executed during those who returning from school to home. The school van may lost a child without correctly knowing about his/her target place. Especially a new van driver does not know each child’s step off location. The child may feel sleepy when his/her step off location crosses. These instants are leading to child abduction and the main reason for this kind of unlawful activities is not having the adequate knowledge about the current location. This project proposes a novel child kidnap protection system with the help of RF ID tag arrangement and GPS facilitated school van. In this novel technique, the child can hold & swipe RF ID tag on the school van while he/she hires the school van. After swiping the tag, the stored database information about the child’s residential address and its landmarks can be retrieved. While the school van starts, the GPS system starts recording the position of the school van and also alerting the location of school van to the each parent as a SMS. By the way of doing this alert, the parents can vigilantly note down the current location of the school van. The embedded system inside the van can display the name of the child with an alarm while the van reach the child’s step off location. This will help the new driver to alert the child without fail. The proposed system is a real time application based on RF ID, GPS and embedded system technology and this reliable system can avoid the child abduction effectively.


ACCIDENT PREVENTION IN BLIND CURVE USING ZIGBEE PROTOCOL

As the number of vehicle in transportation system are widely increasing; so it has been a major concern for highway authorities to facilitate effective control of traffic for collision avoidance. For various highways, these rising demands cannot be counteracted by further extending the existing road infrastructure giving a special importance to the efficient use of the existing network. In this aspect, this project proposes a novel approach for alerting the vehicle during blind curve spot. This system mainly depends upon the piezo electric sensor arrangements on both side of the blind curve road and along with the danger light system with display units. Depending upon the pressure applied on one side the danger light (red light) is activated on the other side and also display unit also intimating with the string “STOP & WAIT”. The aforementioned operation can be applicable to either side of the blind curve road.This advanced & automated system is boon for the transportation system that can lead to human safety on the critical scenarios.

DEVELOPMENT OF A BLOOD LEAKAGE MONITORING SYSTEM FOR THE APPLICATIONS IN HEMODIALYSIS THERAPY

A commercial blood leakage detector, specific for hemodialysis therapy is currently available, which requires the sensing sensitivity of less than 1 ml of blood, and the blood leaking condition can be detected in 1 2 seconds. The sensing method is basically based on the changes of the voltage signal in the sensor.  The main aim of our project is to inform the doctor about the patient conditions through voice and wireless communication. In this project Bio- system parameters namely heart beat, patient temperature and presence of the blood leakage. Abnormality in any one of the parameters will be send voice message to hospital staff and monitor through doctor.
                               Bio technique is that biomedical signal transfer a link between the patient and the physician. By using a miniature transmitter attached to the patient to inform over a range. The physician study and resets the subject with his full mobility. This technique provides the best method of isolating the patient from the recording equipments. 

 Heart beat is sensed by the electronic sensor unit. It gives current outputs directly proportional to absolute pulse variations. This is amplified using Instrumentation amplifiers and feed to embedded controller. The embedded controller wills continuously receiving these signals through sensor circuits and further do the work of displaying and inform to doctor through wireless communication. Temperature is sensed by the LM35. It gives current outputs directly proportional to absolute temperature variations. This is amplified using Instrumentation amplifiers and feed to ADC. The blood leakage can be sensed by Opto sensor. It is fixed at an appropriate location Presence and absence of blood variations of opto sensor. Above mentioned sensing circuits are connected to embedded through interface card. It will continuously receiving these signals through sensor circuits and further implement the communications. The RF transceiver is used continues monitoring of patient condition through wireless connectivity. As a primary function, the proposed work is successfully implementing blood leakage detection where if the blood leakage is detected, then the vacuum pump is suck the blood. And the voice processor is informing the patient condition to the hospital staffs.   

AN ANDROID APPLICATION BASED EMERGENCY OVERHEAD LINE DEACTIVATING SYSTEM FOR THE PROTECTION OF POWER SYSTEM COMPONENTS

This project is individually monitoring the voltage, current, temperature and humidity of the transmission line of concern. The above mentioned parameters are the key factors for the transmission line faults (either short circuit (or) insulation failure) so the proposed system is closely monitoring the above parameters. If there any violation in these parameters, the system immediately alerting the control room. The control room technician may use the android application to on/off the circuit breaker. The control signal is recognized and then transmitted through the wireless communication. The circuit breaker on the field is responsible to trip off the concern line. Thus the proposed system is fully utilizing the embedded system as well as wireless communication protocol to safeguard the whole power system network from the serious accident. This system is dipping the man effort by means of android application interface.

ADVANCED VEHICLE DRIVER ASSISTANT SYSTEM FOR COLLSIION AVOIDANCE

Vehicle Safety features are designed to avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that alert the driver to potential problems. This project is addressing an advanced vehicle assistant system (AVAS) by integrating RADAR, IR sensor units and GPS location finder applications. The main aim of this project is to assess the driver by intimating the left and right side postures of the vehicle and also alerting the driver during critical touching to the vehicle before to it. This proposed technique implemented with RADAR system that continuously transmitting a low frequency signal and according to the RADAR principle it is easy to find out the distance between the RADAR source to the obstacle. So the same principle is applied here to intimate the driver when the vehicle exceeds the predefined threshold distance between the vehicle and the vehicle before to it. The system also handling the left & right side posture monitoring in order to avoid the collisions and this is designed with the two IR sensors on the two sides. This proposed system is locating the accident spot with the help of GPS location finder and sending the location information to predefined person ie. May be a family member, as an urgent.
